Our incredible week of art at the 56^th Venice Biennale
and End of Year Shows

In the early hours of May 10th, 2015, the art & photography students and tutors of Weymouth College embarked on a journey to Venice, Italy. I was one of those students. That evening we arrived at our hotel on Lido, a small island off the mainland of Venice. It was wonderfully warm, a solid 25 degrees.

The next morning we quickly got a start on the day, boarded a boat and headed for the main island of Venice. Two stops later and we arrived at the Giardini, a large enclosed exhibition part of the Venice Art Biennale. There were buildings galore, each one with its own representative country and their own exhibition, and then one huge main building with a variety of countries within. It was the most incredible place, and absolutely packed with an incredible amount of art.

Throughout the week we continued traveling around Venice from exhibition to exhibition, all the way from the massive Arsenale, to hidden gems in back alleys, to an interactive mini-golf course made of art. We saw an incomprehensible amount of artwork from countless countries. Now back at college, we are hard at work producing work inspired by this experience for the end of year shows.

The trip has influenced and sparked a new kind of creativity in many students. Being exposed to so many different cultures, all while being immersed in a foreign city, was an unforgettable experience and invaluable to our education.

Our end of year exhibitions run from Tuesday 16^th – Thursday 18^th June for year 2 BTEC, A-Level and Foundation Diploma students, and the 1^st year BTEC, AS Level and Level 2 First Diploma show runs from Tuesday 23^rd – Thursday 25^th June, and everyone is welcome to come and view our work from 9 – 4:30 each day.

RESIDENTIAL IN VENICE!

We've had an incredibly inspirational week away at the Arts Biennale in Venice!

One day at the Bienalle Arsenale, one at Biennale Gardini, and a couple of days in and around the collateral events in Venice.

Students are now using this experience to produce work for their end of year show... watch this space!
